What happens at a visit to Let’s Talk?
You can talk about whatever is important to you. The counselor will listen closely to your concerns to facilitate problem solving and provide support, perspective, guidance, and suggestions for referral
resources.
Who should visit Let’s Talk?
Let’s Talk is a good fit for students who:
– are not sure about counseling and wonder what it is like to talk with a counselor
– want to talk through a specific problem with someone
– have a concern about a friend and want some thoughts about what to do
– are not interested in ongoing counseling but would like the perspective of a counselor
Let’s Talk is NOT a good fit for students:
– experiencing current thoughts of wanting to hurt themselves or someone else
– with concerns for their safety
– seeking therapy
Is Let’s Talk different from clinical counseling provided by Counseling Services?
Although Let’s Talk counselors are licensed mental health professionals, Let’s Talk is not formal counseling and is not a substitute for mental health treatment — it is a brief, drop-in conversation with a counselor (typically
less than 15 minutes).
Please stop by to talk with Ms. Hodnett tomorrow – she will be waiting for you!
